Originally from Kentucky, she has lived at Ocracoke for more than twenty years. She studied at the University of Kentucky and the Cincinnati Art Academy, specializing in graphic design and printmaking.
Barbara has worked in various media over the years including watercolors and oils, and owned a graphic design company. She also enjoys pottery and photography. Barbara lives with her husband Don and her Airedale, Docker, in a house overlooking one of the Oyster Creek canals. She gets inspiration for her paintings from watching the egrets and herons, and from her volunteer work with the Hatteras National Seashore, where she feeds the Ocracoke ponies and participates in the sea turtle nesting program.
The Art Openings are held at Down Creek Gallery with refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres provided. Live music is now a part of each event. All are invited, locals and visitors, to share in these enjoyable, entertaining, social evenings with the local artist. The Openings are from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm.
