Previously, the National Park Service required that all vehicles have a low pressure tire gauge, shovel, tires approved by the NC Department of Transportation, and a jack board.
This list has been expanded to include: a life jacket, sunscreen, insect repellant, GPS, tide tables, parachute, EPIRB, canteen of water (approved by the NC Department of Health), and a bologna sandwich.
Within the next month NPS will release specifications for the required shovel. A committee has been convened to decide whether a spade or flat shovel will be required.
A separate committee is drafting requirements for approved condiments for the bologna sandwich. Citizens are asked to send comments, in triplicate, stating their desire for mayo or mustard.
