Last month, Ocracoke’s second graders turned their classroom into a Cultural Museum.

It was a chance for them to share and celebrate what they know about other cultures.

 Their teacher, Claudia Lewis, gave each student the assignment to choose another culture and then gather information, artifacts, and souvenirs to display in their exhibits. They worked on their projects at home, with help from parents, researching the food, clothing, and customs of their culture. Each student, Claudia said, chose a culture that was “tied to something they know.”

On the day of the Cultural Museum, the class invited all the elementary and middle school students to visit. Parents and family members also dropped in to learn about the different cultures. 

Canada was presented by Brandt.
