Calling all boaters! Kick off the Christmas season with a beautiful flotilla of lighted boats.
On Friday, November 27th at 5:30pm, boats will set the harbor aglow, and spectators can watch from anywhere around Silver Lake Harbor.
Boats small and large are welcome! Ocracoke watermen, kayakers, sailors, fisherfolk, jet ski-ers – all are welcome to join in the fun and light up the waters of Silver Lake. Running lights are already red and green, so the Christmas theme is easy!
In 2016, Ocracoke Civic and Business Association board member Teresa O'Neal brought back an old holiday tradition: the parade of boats in Silver Lake harbor. As few as 4 boats and as many as 8 have lit up the harbor with Ocracoke's small but festive display of holiday cheer. In 2017, Sundae Horn (me!) took the helm of the boat parade by pestering local captains to participate.
So far this year, we have 3 boats committed! (No surprise, one of them is Sundae's husband with his boat, the schooner Windfall II.) Do your part to help promote this socially-distanced, outdoor, low-risk evening entertainment!
(This year, due to COVID, we won't be gathering at the Watermen's Exhibit with treats and drinks. We hope to do that again in 2021! But we can enjoy the boat parade from anywhere around the Silver Lake Harbor.)If you need more information, lights, or an inverter, please contact Sundae Horn @ 252-921-0283.
Enter at your own risk. Ocracoke Holiday Boat Parade is not responsible for any damage to your boat or others during the event.
