The Giving Tree Helps Deck the Halls
Thank you to the many sponsors for this program:
- Cape Hatteras Secondary School DECA, for being an instrumental part of this program – not only providing decor and light refreshments, but sending students over to set up the event.
- Crystal Hardt

- Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center at Cape Fear Community College
Rubie Shoemaker, a student at Cape Hatteras Secondary School, spearheaded the Giving Tree community service project with the Cape Hatteras DECA Chapter. The students members of DECA, a national organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management, chose to do a project that would benefit the locals of Ocracoke Island who were affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Their goal is to provide traditional Christmas decorations to the residents of Ocracoke by collecting new and lightly-used decorations to give away.
