Halloween Happenings

Ocracoke loves a holiday! Here's how we'll celebrate:

On Saturday, October 26th, the island's newest business owners, Drew Batts and Clayton Jernigan, invite the community to a Halloween Festival at Jerniman's Campground (formerly Beachcomber.)

Halloween Happenings

The party begins at 2pm for children of all ages! There'll be two bouncy houses, old-fashioned games, a pumpkin patch and carving station, and a chance to win prizes! (Watch out for the witch!)

At 5pm, they'll feed the community a BBQ and BBQ chicken dinner with all the fixin's! At 7pm, they are going to turn up the music, break out the BYOBs, and let the grown-ups have some fun.

It's a costume party, too. Don't have a costume? Stop by Jerniman's on Friday and check out their dress-up supplies. The party is a gift from Drew and Clayton to give us all a "well-deserved good time!"

Next week, the island will celebrate our favorite holiday on both October 30th and 31st! (Two days are better than one.)

To get ready for the big day, come to a Pumpkin Carving Party at Island Yoga on Monday night at 7pm. Please comment on their Facebook page that you’re interested/in need of tools, and if you’d be willing to chip in $10 for supplies. BYOB; snacks provided, but feel free to bring more! Kids welcome with their grown-ups.

The Ocracoke School PTA is hosting a Halloween Party at the Community Park on Wednesday, October 30th. It will feature everyone's favorite aspects of the annual carnival event: the kids' Costume Parade, the Cake Walk, and Hot Dogs! Everything is FREE this year. The fun begins at 4:30, with the Parade at 5pm.

New this year is the "Trunk 'r' Treat" at the Community Park during the Halloween Party. For those who plan to participate, the PTA has plenty of candy for you to give out; it'll be available at 3:30pm. You can bring you car, golf cart, bike, or just a bucket and give out candy to costumed kids as the come by. Decorate your vehicle and dress up to make it fun! There'll be a prize for the best decorated vehicle!

Trick or Treat on the 31st! Are kids going door-to-door on Halloween Night this year? The answer is yes, of course! Piles of storm debris won't stop the fun! The residents of Loop Road are ready for them, thanks to many generous donations of candy from Ocracoke's off-island friends. (And others, too! Sand Dollar Road wants Trick-or-Treaters! Jason will have a haunted yard again this year.) Watch for hazards on the sides of the road and be extra careful this year.

And, finally, the night we've all been waiting for: Halloween for the over-21's! Beers & Fears at 1718 Brewery! DJ Tommy will be spinning the tunes, Plum Pointe will provide the snackage, and the 1718 crew will award Costume Prizes! This is a town that loves to dress up, so go big or go home!
