The Current's own Crystal Canterbury will show her new photographs at an opening this week.

Down Creek Gallery will continue its summer Art Opening series – “Expose Yourself to Art” –  for the 2017 season beginning with artist Crystal Canterbury on Wednesday, May 31st. Crystal will be featuring her latest works in photography from 5pm-8pm at Down Creek Gallery.

Crystal Canterbury moved to Ocracoke from Columbia, Maryland in 2010, fulfilling a childhood dream. For the past four years, she has worked for Eastern National in the National Park Service Visitor Center. Also volunteering with the National Park Service and N.E.S.T., Crystal is a member of the British War Graves Committee. Crystal is a broadcaster at WOVV 90.1 FM, and regularly contributes articles and photographs for Ocracoke Current.

Crystal studied music and music education, at West Virginia University, however, her move to Ocracoke Island has “steered her” in a completely different arena with her art, work for the National Park Service, and many other community affairs. She is increasingly interested in photographing the island and its wildlife, studying wartime events that took place off the North Carolina coast, and is working towards becoming a certified wildlife rehabilitator.

Come out to Down Creek Gallery for an amazing evening of art, light hors d'oeuvres, and live musical entertainment with April Trueblood and Kim France. Ocracoke residents and visitors alike are welcome to attend. Enjoy, and Expose Yourself to Art!

Ocracoke Current readers know and love Crystal as one of our staff writers and our favorite photographer. (Like our Facebook page to see even more from her camera.)
