Obituary for Richard Charles O'Neal

Mr. O’Neal, a native of Ocracoke, was the son of the late Harry Walton O’Neal, Sr. and Essie Mae Parsons O’Neal and the husband of Ginger Howard O’Neal of the residence. He served his country in the US Army and the US Coast Guard and was retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired as the Maintenance Transportation Director for Perquimans County Schools. He was a tireless supporter of the Perquimans County Schools, a member of Hertford United Methodist Church, a loving husband and father, doting grandfather and steadfast friend to many.

Besides his wife, Ginger of forty-six years, he is survived by two sons, Richard C. O’Neal, Jr. and Robert B. O’Neal; three grandchildren, Jenna O’Neal who resides in the home, Kayli Sullivan and Kassidy O’Neal of TX; six great-grandchildren; five brothers, George O’Neal and wife Catherine of Mesic, NC, Reginald O’Neal and wife Elva of Ocracoke, NC, Walton “Cotton” O’Neal and wife Sue of Ocracoke, NC, Rex O’Neal and wife Miggy of Ocracoke, NC and Herbert O’Neal and wife Karen of Mesic, NC; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Carlton Boyce O’Neal, James “Sam” O’Neal, Jimmy O’Neal, Harry F. O’Neal, and Bruce O’Neal.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Ocracoke United Methodist Church officiated by the Pastor Richard Bryant. The family will receive friends at the residence. A private burial will be in the O’Neal Family Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 332, Ocracoke, NC 27960.
