Hatteras-Ocracoke ferries beging Spring Schedule today!
1:30pm: Monthly ferry division meeting along with the Army Corps of Engineers @ the Community Center. The Corps will give us an update about the much-mourned short route. Can it be revived? Find out at the meeting!
4pm: Play Ball! The Dolphins middle school baseball team will host a home game @ the Community Park.
7pm: Trivia Night @ Gaffer's! $2 to play; proceeds will benefit Ocracoke resident Raul Ibarra, who lost all his belongings in a house fire last week. Come out and show off how smart -- and generous -- you are! Also, Charles won't be there, so anyone could win!
5pm: Back Porch Restaurant opens for the season!
5:30pm: Ocracoke Planning Advisory Board Meeting @ the Ocracoke Community Center.
7pm: Maundy Thursday service @ Ocracoke United Methodist Church.
7pm: "The Tale of the Black Squall" performance at Ocracoke School. Admission is FREE; donations to Ocracoke Alive Arts Partnership and Ocracoke School Arts Week are welcome.
12pm: Good Friday service at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church.
1pm: Memorial Service for Billy Garrish at Ocracoke United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or OVFD. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Food may be dropped off beginning at 11am.
8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night from April 14th – November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
9am: First Maker's Market of 2017, 9am–3pm, on the lawn at the Wahab House on Silver Lake. Local and regional artists and crafters will display their wares. Biking or walking is suggested as parking is available only at the NPS parking lot.
10am: Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Ocracoke United Methodist Church: All are welcome to join in the fun on April 15th at 10am. Don't be late! It's fast and furious!
11:30am: 3rd Annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off Island cooks are busy planning their best soups for the Clam Chowder Cook-off Saturday, April 15, 2017, from 11:30am to 2:30pm in the Ocracoke Community Center. All—individuals, businesses, restaurants and professional cooks—are invited to create their best version of traditional and/or non-traditional Ocracoke clam chowder. Admission to taste the chowders and vote for your favorite is $10 per person. All proceeds benefit Ocracoke Child Care. More information here.
6pm: Live music! Martin & Friends at Ocracoke Oyster Company, 6-9pm.
6pm: Easter Wine Tasting @ Zillie's: Hop into spring with a special Easter Weekend Wine Tasting! Five fun wines will be paired with savory and sweet incredible treats from the pantry. Limited space available for this Special Wine Tasting. Make a reservation @ zillies.com.
7pm: Easter Fundraising Concert @ Deepwater Theater! Come take a gander at the new Ocracoke Opry and have a listen to some your favorite Ocracoke musicians and storytellers. Doors are open at 7pm; the show will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for the kids. Seating is limited, so come early. Proceeds benefit Ocracoke Alive.
6:30am: Happy Easter! If you're the morning type, you'll love the Sunrise Service at the Lifeguard Beach! The annual Easter Sunrise Service is a joint venture between the Ocracoke United Methodist Church and the Ocracoke Assembly of God. It's a moving service and a lovely time to be on the beach (or so they tell me.)
If you like to sleep in, both churches have regular Easter services at 11am; the Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.
