Ocracoke School's 4th and 5th grade classes are planning an epic trip from the sea to the mountains – and back again – in the spring.
They will travel by schoolbus all the way to Grandfather Mountain, near Linville, NC, stopping in Raleigh, Guildford, Winston-Salem, and other points of interest along the way.
Last year, 4th grade teacher Jeanie Owens took her students to New Bern, Raleigh, and Williamsburg, VA to support their studies of NC and American history. She misses her former class so much, she invited them and their teacher, Paige Bennett, to combine their class trips this year.
Gas, food, lodging, entrance fees... it's going to be a pricey trip, but Ms Jeanie, Ms Paige, and the kids' parents know it will be worth it. Some of these island young'uns have never seen the mountains! All of them will learn NC history, geography, and natural history this year, and with the trip, they'll be able to experience hands-on learning and a lot of fun!
The fundraising efforts will be ongoing all year. A yard sale is planned for Saturday, November 5th, and they'll also have a 50/50 raffle in the new year. The Current will keep you posted, of course!
The Chicken Dinner fundraiser will be in the Community Square on Saturday, October 29th, beginning at 4pm. Get in line early!
