Hyde County is pleased to announce they have filled the Health Director position with the appointment of Luana Gibbs as the new Interim Health Director.
Luana has been with the Hyde County Health Department since 1998 starting at the front desk as a receptionist. Gibbs decided she wanted to go into nursing, she wanted to do more. Gibbs remained part-time at the Health Department and went to Beaufort Community College to received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing. In 2002 she became a public health nurse I. Through the years she has advanced as a Health Nurse II, III and Nurse Supervisor. In October of 2014 through February of 2015 she served as Interim Health Director before Mr. Howard arrived.
Gibbs will return to school again, this time for her Bachelor’s Degree in interdisciplinary study with a concentration in non-profit administration. These classes will all be online and will take approximately 4 years. When completed Ms. Gibbs will be the full time Health Director.
