Current Events Week of Oct. 19th
Come out to see the latest artwork by Ocracoke's Debbie Wells at an Art Opening at Down Creek Gallery, 5 –8pm. There'll be refreshments and live music by Rob King! All are welcome to "Expose Yourself to Art!" Debbie's recent work is a series of collaged images utilizing "old, discarded paintings as the ground, and depicting imaginary plant forms as they might evolve in nature." The collaged elements were constructed from vintage botanical imagery, photographs, and drawings of insects and birds. Her originals are on display currently at Down Creek Gallery.

Debbie began painting with watercolors in the early 1990's. She started to incorporate collaged elements to her paintings in 2000, and began painting on wood. She carved each piece which she then finished with paint and collaged elements. Wells states that her themes on the "body of work focused on transformation, death, rebirth, and feminine symbols such as eggs."  In 2010, Debbie became part of a group of local Ocracoke artists called the "Ocracoke Five." They exhibited in Asheville, NC, as well as a World War II bunker site on Ocracoke Island, and in 2011 the Ocracoke "Convenience Site."

TRAC brings Visit North Carolina's program managers to local communities to discuss the nuts and bolts of working with the organization.
