"North End Nude Beach" in oils by Sarah Searight

Part-time islander Sarah Searight will show her new works Sept. 9th.

Beautiful depictions of Ocracoke Island will be the highlight of the September featured artists in Down Creek Gallery’s “Expose Yourself to Art” series of artists’ receptions. All receptions are open to the public and feature refreshments and live music from 5 – 8pm.

Sarah Searight has been a fall resident for the last fifteen years and has developed a following for her fresh, flowing paintings and water colors.

She has a bachelor’s degree in fine art in printmaking, drawing and painting from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX.

A water lover, Sarah divides her seasons between Austin, TX, the Gulf Coast, and Ocracoke.

After living on Ocracoke for 10 years, Sarah earned her wheel time to become a USCG licensed boat captain, always with her paints in tow.  A deep respect for nature and her drive to live a simplistic life style keeps her returning to the sea. Her studio of choice is her favorite beach or boat. While here, she paints “plein air” out of the back of  "Mary Lee," an old, white, borrowed Suburban. If  you should see her painting out on the beach, feel free to say hello.

The musical guest for Sarah’s opening will be April Trueblood.

The next art opening at Down Creek Gallery is September 23rd with local artist Mary Bassell.
