Well, besides enjoying this amazing winter beach weather we go to meetings and basketball games, and plan for the season ahead!
Monday, February 9th:
NCDOT Ferry Division meeting, 1pm at the Community Center. Ferry division staff will be on-hand to answer questions about the ferry service.
The Wonder of Whales! Come out to Deepwater Theater at 7:00pm to learn about the cetacean critters that swim close to our shores. Keith Rittmaster, the natural science curator at the Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC, will present a hour-long slideshow along with some hands-on display items. This FREE program is sponsored by Ocracoke Alive. More info here.
Tuesday, February 10th:
POSTPONED until Wednesday: Senior Night at Ocracoke School gym, 4pm. Come out to see the Senior Night ceremonies and stay for the basketball games against Manteo High School.
Ocracoke Alive is holding a special meeting at 6:30pm at Deepwater Theater. This Special Membership Meeting is for the purpose of filling expired/vacant seats on the OA Board of Directors and will be followed by a regular meeting of the Board.
Wednesday, February 11th:
Transformation Zone Pre-School Storytime, 9:30am at Ocracoke Assembly Church classroom. Two-, three-, and four- year-olds are invited to join Leslie Lanier for stories, snacks, crafts, and fun!
Senior Night at Ocracoke School gym, 4pm. Come out to see the Senior Night ceremonies and stay for the basketball games against Manteo High School. Games start at 4pm. This will be the last regular season home game for senior Lady Dolphins Abbey Morris, Katie O'Neal, and Lucy O'Neal. Listen at 90.1FM or wovv.org. Go Dolphins!
OCBA meeting, 7pm at the Community Center. The new superintendent for Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Dave Hallac, will attend the meeting to talk about Park issues and answer questions. All are welcome! Read the minutes from January’s meeting here.
Thursday, February 12th:
Ocracoke Planning Advisory Board meeting, 5:30pm at the Community Center. The planning board is going over the Ocracoke Development Ordinance line by line to make suggestions for improvement. The meetings are always entertaining and sometimes stuff gets done!
Occupancy Tax Board meeting, 7:30pm at the Community Center. The Hyde County Office of Planning and Economic Development will publicly present findings of a research study on Ocracoke's tourism promotion. Also on the agenda is a discussion about 4th of July fireworks. More info here.

Saturday, February 14th:
Happy Valentine’s Day! Special holiday events include a wine-tasting at Zillie’s, specials and dessert at Eduardo’s, and an 80’s themes dance party at Gaffer’s with Raygun Ruby.
