The weather is still lovely (most days), but the village is quiet. And December is not quite here with its non-stop merry-making, so November is a good time for long walks on the beach.
But there are still a few things going on that you won't want to miss!
The Hatteras–Ocracoke ferry schedule changes on Tuesday, November 11th! It goes to its winter schedule:
On Tuesday, Ocracoke Preservation Society is holding their Fall Membership Potluck and Meeting. It's at Deepwater Theater, and starts with food (yum!) at 6pm, followed by a short business meeting.
They will also be presenting their 1st Annual Ocracoke Cultural Heritage Award to Earl O'Neal, for all of his hard work and dedication to preserving Ocracoke's history. (Due to health issues, Earl won't be able to be there, but family members will accept the award on his behalf.) The OPS Trustees will present the Historic Preservation Award to a property owner who has helped to preserve a building in Ocracoke's Historic District. It's a surprise! We'll find out tonight who the winner is!
All are welcome to attend the potluck and meeting, and find out what OPS is doing in the community.
Tuesday is Veterans Day. The Ocracoke Current thanks those who have served. Ocracoke School had its annual Veterans Day ceremony last Friday – read about it here!
Also on Tuesday…. there will be a planned power outage. Here's the scoop from Tideland EMC and Cape Hatteras Electric Co-op : Ocracoke Planned Outage: Starting Tues., Nov. 11 @ 10 pm. Cape Hatteras hopes to minimize the length of the outage to 5 minutes as it brings up the generators. Please minimize electric use going into the outage and through the night so the generators can handle the load.
