On Saturday, November 1st, thirteen crazy Ocracoke women participated in the Rugged Maniac obstacle race in Maryland.
It didn't happen on Ocracoke, but I really wanted these photos for the Current. We love to celebrate good times and this looks like a good time, if your idea of a good time involves mud and fire. And mechanical bull-riding. And beer stein-hoisting. And lots and lots of laughs.
I was here on Ocracoke covering the Pirate Jamboree (and I will get to that story eventually), and did not witness any of theses events, so I asked the rugged maniacs to give me some quotes. Enjoy!
Angie Todd: "I've got a quote for you: Brrrrr."
Susie Hutchinson: "It’s a front porch, rocking chair kind of story! I will remember it for the rest of my life! Best girls ever!"
Sarah Fiore: "If there’s such a thing as too much fun, that was it! Best group of girls to get muddy with…. Ever!"
Regina O’Neal: "Trip of a lifetime! Don’t forget to include freezing temperature. Brrrr."
Lena Austin O'Neal: "Best fun I’ve ever had in 45 degree mud."
Angie Todd: "Teamwork and laughter with an amazing group of women, definitely on my top ten list of best life experiences."
Alex Miller Walker: "Twenty-five obstacles, 3.1 miles, thirteen awesome women, 1,000 laughs!"
Leslie Cole: "Coldest day of my life? November 1, 2014. Never have been so cold….. ever!"
Alice Burruss: "The pictures speak for themselves. A whole lot of fun, laughs, fire, mud, and friendship!"
Lena (again): "A myriad of personalities that came together as a team baptized in freezing temperatures, mud, and bravery. Or crazy, whichever you prefer."
Cathy Scarborough: "The muscles that hurt the most after this adventure were my laughing ones…. I'm still occasionally bursting out into laughter as I remember something from this weekend! There's no such thing as 'too much fun' but if there was, this whole Rugged Maniac trip would qualify."
Jessie Morissey: "If you were ever to trust your life and liver with a bunch of badass bitches, it would be this group."
